About AMP BJJ

The family focused Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gym parents actually trust.

Four locations across Austin and Baton Rouge. Background-checked, CPR and SafeSport certified coaches. Real BJJ, taught by people who've been doing this for years.

Our story

A gym built around your family.

AMP BJJ started with a simple problem: the family schedule never fit the gym schedule. Parents were dropping kids off for class, sitting in the lobby, then driving home — and never getting any training in themselves. We flipped the model. The Family Class — where parents and kids train together on the same mat — is the room we built first, and everything else grows out of it.

Today we coach hundreds of families across four locations in Austin, TX and Baton Rouge, LA. Parents tell us the change shows up at home — more focus, more patience, better sleep, and a shared language for working through hard moments. Kids get real Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, real self-defense, and a confidence that follows them into the classroom and the world.

We're not a contract mill. We're not chasing trophies. We're a family-first academy trying to do the small thing well: keep your family safe, teach them something that matters, and make the mat feel like home.

Trust & safety

Your child's safety isn't a marketing line. It's a checklist we work every day.

Every coach on our floor meets the same standards before they teach a single class.

Background-checked coaches

Every instructor on our mats passes a full background screening before they ever coach your child.

CPR & First Aid certified

All AMP coaches maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications — required, not optional.

U.S. Center for SafeSport certified

Our staff completes SafeSport training in athlete safety, abuse prevention, and reporting.

Years of coaching experience

AMP coaches are career instructors — not part-time hobbyists — with years of mat hours teaching kids and adults.

How we teach

The Constraints-Led Approach. Skills that actually transfer.

AMP coaches use the Constraints-Led Approach (CLA), grounded in Ecological Dynamics — a modern, science-backed coaching method that's changing how Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is taught around the world.

Instead of memorizing techniques in a vacuum, students learn by solving real problems in live, age-appropriate games. We design the environment — the position, the rules, the partner — so the right skill emerges naturally. The result: faster learning, better retention, and skills that actually work when it counts.

It's also why AMP classes are safe and fun. Kids aren't drilling for fifty minutes hoping it sticks — they're playing focused games that build real jiu-jitsu, with a coach watching every interaction.

What we believe

Family first

Parents and kids train side by side. It's how trust gets built — at the gym and at the dinner table.

Built for busy families

No fixed class day or time. Train whenever your week allows, switch between limited and unlimited anytime, and we'll put all your kids in the same class — even across age groups — so drop-off is one trip, not three.

Real Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

We teach actual jiu-jitsu, taught the right way for every age. No watered-down kids' version.

Community over hype

No gurus, no high-pressure contracts. Walk in, train, leave better than you came.
